Computer Generated Everything

It comes as no surprise to me that computers are now being made to automatically generate news stories. What does surprise me is the high quality of the content delivered by these computers. If a computer can generate such a well written article for such a low cost, then why do we need humans writing news stories for such a high cost? Sure, the programs might only be able to write baseball stories now, but how long will it be before they are writing stories to compete with the big-name-news corporations? This is really nothing more than a new form of industrial competition. In this case its human writers competing against computer programmers who have made low cost computerized writers. It will be a long time before the competition really gets fierce, but when it does--to the victor belong the spoils.

  1. It's all nice and handy that computers will do our chores, such as writing news articles. I just wonder how long until the Sci-Fi movies play out and the Computers revolt against us and take over.

  2. I'm surprised computer programs can manage human languages enough to write a quality story.

  3. I think that computer generated news stories will become boring. They won't have any of the flow and fun of some of the more creative writes. such as the star wars paper dr K showed us.

The day computers can generate cotent matches that level of writing better start watching out for SkyNet... :-)

  4. Before computers, blueprint took a long time to produce. Now, I bet they can make several blueprints. I think we will still need writers. For example, the writers can look over the articles to check for any errors. The writers will have to become skilled with computers to stay in the market, if they have to compete against computers.
